Planning a Mozambique Holiday: A Guide to the Machangulo Peninsula
A Mozambique holiday is one of the easiest ways for South Africans to feel like they have travelled far without flying for hours. We say that because we host these trips for a living, on the part of the coast we know best, the Machangulo Peninsula. Here is everything we tell guests when they are planning to come and see us.
Why we think you should choose Mozambique
Mozambique has thousands of kilometres of Indian Ocean coastline, and in our experience the further you get from the busy resorts, the better it gets. The Machangulo Peninsula sits just south of Maputo and feels like another world to us every time we are out on it. Long open beaches, clear water, almost no crowds. It is the kind of place that reminds you what a beach holiday is meant to feel like.
For our South African guests it is also wonderfully reachable. You do not need a long haul flight. You drive to the Kosi Bay border or fly into Maputo, and from there you are close, and we are waiting.
When we suggest coming
We run trips all year, and the experience shifts with the season. The warmer months bring hot days and excellent fishing, with marlin running from January to April. The cooler months are perfect for walking the coast in comfort. Whatever time of year you come to us, the water stays inviting.
Because we run on tide aligned windows, the best thing to do is tell us roughly when you would like to come, and we will recommend the ideal dates from what we know of the tides.
How we get you here
Getting to our part of Mozambique is simpler than most people expect. You make your own way to the Kosi Bay border in northern KwaZulu Natal, or you fly into Maputo. From either point we meet you and take care of every transfer, road and detail. You do not need a four by four, a guidebook or a plan. You just need to arrive, and we do the rest.
What we can show you
This stretch of coast packs a lot into a small area, and we make the most of it. On a single trip with us you can walk the coast on a guided multi day trail along empty beaches, ride the same route on a mountain bike or electric bike, go game fishing for sailfish, GTs and marlin, snorkel clear reefs in a marine reserve, take a game drive to see elephant herds and kudu, fly over the coast on a tandem paraglider at sunset, or simply do nothing at all in Santa Maria with a drink in hand.
The part we love is that you can combine these. Walk for a few days, then add a fishing day. Ride the beach, then snorkel a reef. We build the trip around what your group actually wants.
What we include
Every trip we run is small group, exclusive and all inclusive. Exclusive means it is only ever your party, never shared with strangers. All inclusive means we cover accommodation, meals, guiding and key activities, so there are no surprise costs once you are with us. Our accommodation ranges from comfortable beachfront lodges to luxury stays in Santa Maria.
Let us plan it with you
In our experience the hardest part of a Mozambique holiday is deciding to book it. Once you do, we handle the rest. Tell us your dates and how many of you there are, and we will come back within 24 hours with a tailored quote.
