Crossing with your own vehicle

If you're driving to Kosi Bay yourself, you'll need to prepare for the border crossing. Get this sorted before you leave — turning around for missing paperwork is no fun.

Required documentation

  1. Valid passport of the driver
  2. Certified copy of the vehicle registration papers in the name of the driver
  3. If the vehicle isn't in the driver's name: a letter of authority from the registered owner
  4. If the vehicle is still financed: a letter of authority from the bank with dates of travel, plus vehicle licence papers
  5. Valid driver's licence
  6. Declaration form and Temporary Import Permit for the vehicle — issued at the border, compulsory
  7. Third-party insurance — letter from your insurer, compulsory

Required gear in the vehicle

You can pick up the stickers, triangles and reflective jackets at Outdoor Warehouse or most outdoor stores nationwide.
