The 5-Day Trail

Six nights, five days of walking, roughly 89 km on foot from Ponta Malongane to Santa Maria, beach, hard sand, wide open coast. Built for guests who already know they're up for a challenge.

Fitness note. Suited to people who've done multi-day trails before, Pondo Trail, sani2c, Berg & Bush, or marathons / trail running. You don't need to be elite, but you need to be up for it. A support vehicle shadows the group every day, so anyone struggling can ride a stretch.

Arrive Ponta Malongane

We meet you at the Kosi Bay border, or in Maputo and transfer you to your accommodation in Malongane. Breathtaking views, paragliding, a fire, drinks and dinner under the night sky.

Day 1 · Thu

Ponta Malongane → Techobanine

11 km2 hrs to 3 hoursEasy beach

A short scenic walk to ease into things. Incredible snorkeling and diving at Techobanine. Kick back around the evening fire and sink into some low impact, off the grid living.

Day 2 · Fri

Techobanine → Milibangalala

35 km~6 hrsThe long one

The biggest day on the trail. Wide open, pristine coastline without any site of human life for about 35km. Be welcomed by pure luxury and a Spa at the end of a very rewarding day on the trail.

Day 3 · Sat

Milibangalala → Ponta Membene

10 km~1.5 hrsLight day

A nice easy day after the long previous day. Another incredible snorkelling site. Here we get to take some time out to enjoy a game drive and Elephant interaction, with sundowners over the National Park, followed by an incredible Boma Experience for dinner.

Ponta Membene → Ponta Mucumbo

Walking into the more dramatic coastline. Optional GT fishing on arrival at Mucumbo. Seafood dinner.

Day 5 · Mon

Ponta Mucumbo → Santa Maria

The last walk into paradise. A few refreshments, a Spa treatment for anyone who's after that. A quick boat transfer to the island for afternoon sundowners, followed by Mozambique's best cuisine combos.

Relax in Santa Maria, or depart

An optional rest day in Santa Maria, or transfer back to Ponta Malongane / Maputo. Most groups choose to stay.

The 3-Day Trail

The trail at a friendlier pace and shorter distances over 3 days, with two nights in Santa Maria at the end of the trail to soak up all that Santa Maria has to offer. Open to most fitness levels, sporty kids from age 10 and above are welcome.

Fitness note. Suitable for most people from all walks of life, sporty children from around 10 years old are welcome. Support vehicle on hand at all times if anyone needs to ride a stretch.

Transfer included from Futi Gate

We collect you at Futi Gate and transfer you in to Milibangalala. Settle in, welcome dinner.

Milibangalala → Ponta Membene

An easy first day to find your feet on the coast. Boma experience at Membene that evening.

Day 2 · Sun

Ponta Membene → Ponta Mucumbo

Ponta Mucumbo → Santa Maria

The final walk in. Marine Reserve boat, snorkel, sunset drinks. First night in Santa Maria.

Eco Trail

The 3 Day Trail. Exactly the same as the 5 Day Trail, but friendlier on the pocket and aimed at camping enthusiasts. The only difference here is that your accommodation is a bit more rustic: Safari tented camps on nights 1 & 3 rather than lodges, with evenings around the fire under the stars.

Group size: 4–10 Same route as the 3 Day Trail Difficulty: Moderate

The idea. Same route and pace as the 3 Day Trail. The difference is where you sleep: simple, permanent tented camps and fireside evenings instead of lodges.

Mountain Bike or E-Bike Safari

An incredible way to see the entire stretch between Malongane and Santa Maria on two wheels, bring your own mountain bike or e-bike. About 2–3 hours of riding each day over 2 days, same route as the 5 Day Trail, with extra days bolted on at Santa Maria including an island tour to Inhaca.

What's included. Same inclusions as the 5 Day Trail except the island restaurant lunch on the walking trail, we swap that for the Inhaca island tour at the end.

Malongane → Ponta Membene

The first half of the coastline on two wheels. Overnight at Mucumbo / Casa Bella.

Day 2

Membene → Santa Maria

~2–3 hrs riding

The second half into Santa Maria. Marine Reserve boat, snorkel, sunset drinks.

Day 3+

Santa Maria + Inhaca island tour

Extra days at Santa Maria including an island tour to Inhaca. Snorkel, beach, dhow sunsets.

Getting there. Fly into Maputo and we transfer you to Santa Maria by boat (1h 30 min, tide-dependent, talk to us before booking flights). Or drive to the Kosi Bay border and we'll bring you through Elephant Park on an open game vehicle.

Arrive Santa Maria

Transfer by boat from Maputo or 4x4 from Kosi Bay. Settle in, gear check, first sunset on the coast.

Day 2

Fishing day 1

First day out chasing whatever's running, sailfish, GTs, wahoo, yellowfin, dorado. Boat returns mid-afternoon for sundowners and seafood.

Day 3

Fishing day 2

Second full day on the water. Lunch on the boat.

Day 4

Fishing day 3

Third day. By now you're settled into the rhythm.

Day 5

Fishing day 4

Final fishing day. Marine Reserve snorkel option if anyone wants to switch it up. Farewell dinner.

Depart

Boat back to Maputo or 4x4 transfer to Kosi Bay.
