The Three Day Trail: Three Days Off the Grid on Mozambique's Wild Coast
Not everyone who calls us has a full week, and not everyone wants to walk ninety kilometres. That is exactly why we created the Three Day Trail. It gives you the best of our Machangulo Peninsula at a friendlier pace, with shorter walking days, beautiful accommodation and two full nights in Santa Maria at the end to soak it all in. This is the trail we recommend most often, and here is why.
How we run the Three Day Trail
We meet you at the Kosi Bay border or in Maputo and transfer you to Milibangalala, where we put you up for your first night at a luxury resort right on the coast. From there we walk you for roughly four hours a day along the same stunning route as our longer trail, just without the first two days. You move along wide open beaches over hard sand, and we keep a support vehicle behind you the whole way.
After the walking, we finish in Santa Maria at the tip of the peninsula, where you get two nights to rest, swim and let the place settle into you. We keep it open to most fitness levels, and we happily take sporty children aged ten and older, which makes it one of our favourite family trips.
The accommodation we are proud of
We know a walking holiday lives or dies on where you sleep at the end of the day, so this is where we put our energy. You are not in a basic tent eating out of a tin. We stay in comfortable, characterful places along the coast, starting with that luxury resort at Milibangalala and ending in Santa Maria. Hot showers, proper beds, good food and the sound of the ocean through the night.
Every stop has its own feel. Some nights we are tucked into the dunes, some nights we are looking straight out over the water. The Mozambique accommodation on this trail is one of the things guests mention most, and one of the reasons they come back to us.
Three days disconnected from the world
There is no signal chasing you down out here, and we like it that way. For three days we walk, eat, swim and sleep, and the rest of the world quietly fades out. By the time we reach Santa Maria, we have watched people stop reaching for their phones entirely. That is the whole point. We call it disconnect to reconnect, and this is the easiest way we know to feel it. Along the way we include a game drive, snorkelling and sundowners, so the walking is always balanced with proper downtime.
We sort everything out
Like all our trips, the Three Day Trail is small group, exclusive and all inclusive. Exclusive means it is only ever your group on the trail with us, never shared. All inclusive means we handle meals, accommodation, guiding and activities. You just get yourself to the Kosi Bay border or Maputo, and we take it from there.
Prices start from around R24,200 per person, quoted to your group size and dates.
